"The 3 R's: You Can Never Know Enough! - Recruitment, Retention, Recognition."
September 24, 2003 |

On Wednesday, September 24, 2003, the GNYDVS membership met for
their first Professional Development meeting of the year.
Graciously hosted by the Visiting Nurse Service of New York,
thirty-eight members and four guests came to hear our own
members discuss "The 3 R's: You Can Never Know Enough! -
Recruitment, Retention, Recognition."
Three panelists representing Acute Care, Long Term Care and
Hospice presented information relevant to their particular area.
The three panelists were: Angela Purpura, DVS, Hospice of New
York; Rema Sessler, DVS, Isabella Geriatric Center, and Alla
Zats, DVs, Maimonides Hospital. Aileen Jones, DVS, Schervier
Nursing Care Center moderated the program.
For recruitment, the panelists shared information regarding
their most successful affiliations, great ideas or programs with
difficult to recruit volunteers, successful strategies for
recruitment, technology used and obstacles faced in recruiting
today.
For retention, the panelists discussed retention trends,
strategies to encourage volunteers to stay longer and
involvement of other departments in supporting retention.
For recognition, all three panelists shared their experiences
with recognition events, programs, and successes.
Following the program, breakout groups were formed representing
Acute, LTC and Hospice. Although each group was given specific
topics to discuss, the conversations were lively and productive.
One representative from each group had an opportunity to share
their comments at the end.
The program was very well received. New networking, partnership
and friendship opportunities were forged. No matter how long or
how new we are in our fields, we can always learn from each
other.
Support your professional development. Attend meetings, enhance
your knowledge and skills, share thoughts, meet new and old
friends. |
